I'm tired of...

...hearing about Brett Favre. Start him, sit him, trade him, release him, but do something. anyway, on to Sci-Fi Movie #7.

#7--Return of the Jedi (1983)
Ok, I know Jim's going to call this blasphemy, but the Ewoks made me do it. The final resolution of the battle between good and evil, the light and the dark, and we had to have Ewoks in order to finish it. Oh well, there's always something, I guess. Great battle sequence on Tatooine and Harrison Ford continued to be off the chart as Han Solo. By the way, here's to Wedge Antilles, the only man to survive space battles against both Death Stars.

Memorable Quote:
Yoda: Remember, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware. Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Luke... Luke... do not... do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor or suffer your father's fate you will. Luke, when gone am I... the last of the Jedi will you be. Luke, the Force runs strong in your family. Pass on what you have learned, Luke.

Finally, some justice...

After seven unconscionable snubs in a row, Art Monk was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Great year for the Redskins, as Darrell Green was also a member of the Class of 2008.

And now, on to the #8 Sci-Fi movie:

#8--Back to the Future (1985)

Definitely an all-time classic. Teenager Marty McFly travels back to 1955 in a time-machine-converted DeLorean (Try to find one of those now). He inadvertently interferes with his parents meeting for the first time and must correct the error in a week's time to prevent erasing his own existence. Credited with introducing time-travel concepts such as paradoxes and the necessity of not interfering with the normal flow of past events. Great roles by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, but Crispin Glover steals the show as the initially weak-willed George McFly .

Memorable Quote:
Dr. Emmett Brown: If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit.

#9...

...Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Great sequel, just not quite up to the original in terms of tension. After failing to assassinate Sarah Connor before the birth of her son, Skynet sends back the advanced T-1000 to make another attempt when John is 13. In response, John sends back a copy of the original T-800 to protect him. Great special effects and a good performance by Linda Hamilton.

Memorable Quote:

John Connor: No, no, no, no. You gotta listen to the way people talk. You don't say "affirmative," or some shit like that. You say "no problemo." And if someone comes on to you with an attitude you say "eat me." And if you want to shine them on it's "hasta la vista, baby."
The Terminator: Hasta la vista, baby.
John Connor: Yeah but later, dickwad. And if someone gets upset you say, "chill out"! Or you can do combinations.
The Terminator: Chill out, dickwad.
John Connor: Great! See, you're getting it!
The Terminator: No problemo.

Ahhh, Advising Day...

"I'm just trying to be honest about being a misanthrope."
--Mike Newhouse, Dazed and Confused

I'm not going to make it. It's not any significant volume of students. It's the pure lack of quality. They come in here, on the last day of registration, and want to dictate their class schedule. Like the other 5,000 people haven't already scheduled their classes. anyway, 1.5 hours to go. Also, time for a new top ten movies list. This time, it's the Top Ten Science Fiction Movies According to Jeremy:

#10--Men in Black (1997)

I knew it. There really ARE aliens all around us. This movie is great because it makes fun of all the UFO conspiracy theories by asserting that they're all true. The government really has been hiding the truth about the aliens that live among us and their principal agents of concealment are the Men in Black. MIB not only conceals the truth about the aliens, but also cleans up any leaks by removing the evidence and altering the memories of witnesses. Tommy Lee Jones is off the chart as the deadpan veteran Agent K and Will Smith goes over the top as Agent J, the rookie. Look for great parts also from Rip Torn and Vincent D'Onofrio.

Memorable Quote:
K: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.
