"Ypo Skii"

Persian: A thousand nations of the Persian empire shall descend upon you. Our arrows will blot out the sun!
Stelios: Then we will fight in the shade.

I struggled with what to write about tonight's upcoming game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Wolfpack faces a seemingly insurmountable task to defeat Duke at home. In reading about the last stand of the Spartan Army at Thermopylae, I came across the Greek quote that forms the title of this post. Literally, it means "We will fight in the shade." it is an actual historical quote from the Spartan Dianekes at Thermopylae, where 300 Spartans died to the last man to fight against the tyranny of Persia. I just hope, that when the arrows of Duke begin to fall from the sky tonight, our guys, win, lose, or draw, will have the courage and toughness to fight in the shade.

DUCK FUKE!
GO WOLFPACK!

Politics, Politics...

Looks like both sides have pared down into two-horse races. Hillary gave Obama a thrashing in Florida like he gave her in South Carolina. McCain and Romney continue to slug it out on the Republican side...

...and nobody really cares. I really think that the Republican nominee will end up winning the general election because of social issues in this country that will inhibit electing either a woman (especially a woman that pisses everyone off the way Hillary does) or a black man. But that doesn't excite anyone either, especially with the Republicans that are running. Those two guys just put me to sleep. It doesn't matter anyway. Remember politics is a compound word from the Greek: Poli- "Many", -tics= "Blood Sucking Creatures". So, in the spirit of reinvigorating the political process, I think the following guys should form the government of the United States

"I'm telling you, it's too soon to quit."

--Jim Valvano, January 12, 1983

I'm not, in any way, comparing this season to 1983. The only comparison I want to make is that, on Saturday, the Wolfpack demonstrated that there is no "quit" in them. Way to go Courtney Fells, way to go JJ Hickson. I'm also hoping that Costner's virtual benching against FSU will inspire him to play better basketball in the future.

Sweet Jesus, it's cold...

...13 degrees on the car thermometer this morning. Brain function almost shut down, even before class. I'm still not digging this 7:45 AM thing. My thought processes don't work until about 10.

On the good side, the government is going to give back some of my money

This is too funny...

Ask the expert, I guess...

I just bet Bill didn't have anything to say about sleeping with any female over the age of 15 that one can induce to hold still for five minutes. Or getting head from a White House intern in the Oval Office, or, well, why go on.

At least the effort was there...

Last night was one we needed, though. There are some bright spots. Gonzales improved, Johnson improved, and everyone put forth the effort. Just wish we could have found Courtney Fells on the last possession.

One other thing: where the hell was Jack McClinton last night? He could bounce it off his ass and it would go in against us, but against the morons and crotch-grabbers, he can't hit water if he falls out of a boat. There is no justice.

Possibilities...

I'm hoping (with fingers crossed) to get to teach North Carolina History in the Fall Semester, so I thought I'd link to something cool from that arena today:

Gonna have to pull for New England now...

...just so that little punk-ass Eli won't get a ring.

By the way, this new schedule blows. 7:45 AM is too damn early to do anything other than go back to sleep. Oh well, its just 14 more weeks.

Big Time...

...is helping to create the tying basket, then stealing the inbounds pass to make the winning layup. Gavin Grant is the man. X.

Gavin's performance made it almost the perfect sports day. The morons and crotch-grabbers in Chapel Hole lost to Maryland and we beat Miami. Life is good, at least for now

Over the river and through the woods...

...To grandmother's house we go.

Left for Lumberton about noon today. Didn't run into any crappy weather until Asheboro, but were rained and snowed upon thereafter. Still, made good time and no major catastrophes to speak of. that's probably coming later tonight with the game against Miami. Oh well, we'll just have to see.

Am I really supposed to feel pity for the criminally stupid?

This is just one example:

Drunk taunts tiger, tiger wins fight

Every day it seems as though the very stupid want the rest of us to condone their stupidity by feeling pity for them when the consequences of their actions finally catch up to them. Maybe I just see it more often than others. I will admit to having done some dumb things, but I also have had to deal with the consequences. My new response to this desire for pity from the criminally stupid;

"Man, that sucks. Hate it for you."

SNOW!

First one in about three years. Got about 4 inches of it here in the frozen north. Don't know what the Triangle looks like. It's been fun, though. Evie won't remember it, but Lily's having a lot of fun. Also (and this is always a good thing), it got me a day off from work. Gotta love a day off. Anyway, things look good from here, for now

Well, hell...

Pack blows another one at Clemson. It just seems that the effort level is not there. Oh well. Back home against Miami this weekend. Props to Tracy Smith for playing like a man in amongst the rest of the girls.

Good Saturday, Bad Saturday

First, the bad news. The Wolfpack got crushed by that load of morons and crotch-grabbers from Chapel Hill. Still reserving judgment on the season. Need to beat Clemson tonight.

However, I did get to go see the Lost Colony Exhibit at the NC Museum of History. It was really cool to see the original watercolors that John White did on his first voyage to North Carolina in 1585. Then, to know that he had to leave his family and the rest of the colony behind in 1587...just weird. Also, these watercolors are about the only thing we know about John White. He disappeared shortly after his return to England in 1590. Just a really cool exhibit on loan from the British Museum and I'm glad I went to see it, even if it meant I didn't get to see that beatdown on TV. My blood pressure is probably better for it.

Back on the web...

Hopefully this time will be a little more successful, or at least consistent.
